Danny Chaplin, Managing Director of Supere, who has the IASME certification in Cyber Essentials outlines how to ensure that your cyber security is rock solid for your CCTV camera systems. The cybersecurity for your CCTV is as important as the security your camera provides for your premises.
There’s been reports of hackers gaining unauthorised access to IP based camera systems. Danny has written an outline of how to keep your systems safe to ensure that you are not compromised or open to this type of security threat.
Here’s the advice:
Regularly Update and Secure Devices
Ensuring that your devices, including security cameras, are up to date with the latest firmware and security patches is essential in minimising vulnerabilities.
Utilise strong and unique passwords for all accounts and devices. Enabling two-factor authentication wherever possible to add an extra layer of security.
Monitor Camera Feeds
Regularly monitor and review the feeds from security cameras to identify if there is any suspicious activities or unauthorised access.
Educate and Raise Awareness
Spread awareness about cybersecurity best practices within your organisation and among your friends and family. The more informed we are, the better equipped we become to protect ourselves from potential threats.
Employees should be able to easily report in any suspicious activity to your IT department, make sure the people responsible for your CCTV systems know how and when to do this.
Report Suspicious Activity
If you come across any suspicious or illegal content online, promptly report it to the relevant authorities to help combat cybercrime. The relevant authority for the UK is The ICO (https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/report-a-breach/)
“By taking these proactive steps, we can help create a safer and more secure online environment for everyone” says Danny (Supere).
“Having a safe environment both online and offline is important for every business and organisation operating in today’s environment” says Dan (JKE).
Our thanks to Danny for providing this insight into CCTV cybersecurity.
